Monitor Clusters

You can monitor clusters in a RAC External Database System and Single Instance External Database System on RAC One Node on the Cluster details page.

Database Management supports cluster version 12.1 and later. Using Database Management, you can monitor the following cluster modes:

  • Oracle Standard Clusters: In a standard cluster all nodes are connected and have direct access to shared storage, these nodes work together to provide a single, unified system.
  • Oracle Flex Clusters: In a flex cluster, there are two types of nodes, Hub nodes and Leaf nodes, which are arranged in a hub and spoke architecture and can host different types of applications.

To go to the Cluster details page:

  1. Go to the Database System details page.
  2. In the Cluster section, click the display name of the cluster.

    The Cluster details page is displayed.

On the Cluster details page, you can:

  • Click Cluster information to view details such as the OCID of the cluster, the associated Database System, connector details, cluster name and mode. In the Cluster information panel, you can also perform tasks such as going to the associated Database System details page or changing the connector for the cluster.
  • Click More actions to perform the following tasks:
    • Click Alarms to monitor the total number of open alarms and the number of alarms by severity. Note that an alarm is only displayed in Database Management if the OCID of the resource is specified using the resourceId dimension when creating the alarm. You can click the number of alarms to access the Alarms panel and review the list of open alarms. For information, see Monitor Alarms for External Database Systems.
    • Click Tags to add, view, edit, or remove tags. For information, see Working with Resource Tags.
  • Monitor the cluster and cluster nodes in the Summary section for the time period selected in the Time period applied filter.
    • Monitoring status timeline: Monitor the status of each cluster node during the selected period of time.
    • Open alarms: Monitor the total number of open alarms and the number of alarms by severity.
    • Cluster interconnect (MBPS): Monitor the cluster interconnect data in a chart. This chart displays the interconnect transfer rates aggregated for the cluster, in MBPS. It provides a breakdown of the private network interface total throughput rate and the percentage of total errors on the interface, for each node in the cluster.
      Note

      The AWR report for RAC databases provides additional information about cluster interconnect data and exposes interconnect database ping latencies for varying message sizes. This report provide insights into the interconnect traffic patterns, peak variation, congestion and potential block loss. You can generate and download the AWR report in AWR Explorer in Database Management. For information on AWR Explorer and how to download an AWR report, see Use AWR Explorer to Analyze Database Performance.
    • Cluster instances: Monitor the status of the cluster and related information. In the Cluster instances section, you can:
      • Click the Arrow icon adjacent to the display name to view more information about the cluster node, such as the OCID, the host and node name, and lifecycle state.
      • Monitor the node and GI status and CPU and memory utilization of the cluster node.
      • Click the link in the Connector column to go to the Connector details page to view connector details. If a connector has not been previously added, then in the Connector column, click Add connector. Otherwise, click Change to change the connector used to connect to the cluster node.
      • Select an option in the drop-down list in the upper-right corner of the section to filter the results by node role in case of flex clusters: Hub and Leaf, Hub, Leaf.
  • Click Work requests in the left pane under Resources to monitor the work requests pertaining to the cluster.
